  • Smoking is not only a risk factor for heart disease, but it is also a risk factor for causing diabetes.1,3 It can also cause complications in those with diabetes.1
  • Excess fats (high cholesterol) in your blood can cause blockage in the arteries and this may cause a Heart Attack. It can also cause damage to the organs like the eyes, kidneys and the nerves.1,4
  • Other than heart disease, high blood pressure and diabetes are two main risk factors for Heart Failure.5
  • Hypertension is one of the leading causes of Chronic Kidney Disease. High blood pressure is not only related to heart disease; it is also one of the main reasons why haemodialysis may be needed.6
  • Up to 40 % (2 in 5) of patients with Type 2 Diabetes develop Diabetic Kidney Disease.7
  • Whether you have Diabetes or not, you are more likely to develop kidney disease if you have a family history of kidney failure.8
  • Your risk of cardiovascular disease increases if your family have a history of cardiovascular disease.9
